Hi-Tech supports Argonne National Lab's LCLS Program

Hi-Tech Manufacturing, Inc. celebrates completion  of the first phase of Argonne National Laboratory's Linac Coherent Light Source Program. This is the first time ever an Accelerator Laboratory has awarded this type of work to a U.S. company of this size. Recent developments in the Department of Energy have created huge demands on metalworking suppliers.

This program is to create a Linac Coherent Light Source, the world's first x-ray laser. This effort will benefit medicine, electronics, biology, nanotechnology, and others by exposing the elements of chemical reactions.

Part of the program was the crafting of 40, 3.4 meter long titanium bodies machined and ten assembled. Hi-Tech is the first U.S. metalworking supplier to be awarded such work. For Hi-Tech, the 24 month project was completed in less than 15 months and involved significant project management levels (Project Managers Simon Sorsher, Mario Arcari and Gregory Goldfarb).

Hi-Tech has more than 20 years of history with both Fermi Lab and Argonne National Laboratory. The materials involved: neodymium iron boron permanent magnets, vanadium permendur, and titanium. Read more about the program by visiting Argonne's web site www.lcls.aps.anl.gov.
